Freesia is a genus in the Iridaceae of about 14 species from southern Africa, mostly from the winter rainfall region of South Africa. An attractive cormous geophyte growing to 20cm with sword shaped leaves. Flowers are creamy to white with mauve reverse with broad yellow markings and is sweetly scented. Found naturally in coastal areas in deep sand. Flowers from August to September.
