A collection of earlier references to plant propagation come form a Greek philosopher, Theopahrastus (circa 300 BC) and disciple of Aristotle, who described many aspects of plant propagation, including seeds, cuttings, layering and grafting. This is the process where one create new plants that are identical to the parent plant. The most common way is by growing roots from a cutting in water. You can propagate from a leaf, splitting and dividing plants. Propagating is the best way to expand your plant collection. This seems to always be more fun than purchasing them. I am sure that you will agree that there is absolutely nothing more rewarding than to see your propagated plants flourish. In my experience this is the method that requires the least skill and effort. Make your cutting so that the node will be on the piece of vine that you will place in water. Wait a few weeks for the roots to grow. Repot once the roots are between 5 - 6cm. The division method can be used for a large variety of plants. Remove the plant from it's pot and loosen the root ball. Gently untangle the roots if needed. Remove the pups and repot these with fresh soil, dampen and care for it as usual.Leaf propagation may be the only means of propagation for some plants. As with everything, patience, love and tender care is always key. Rooting stem cuttings is the most reliable way to propagate hybrid plants. This is also such an exciting way to clone your favourite plants as it is a complete genetic match of the parent plant.
