Pachypodium is a genus of succulent spine-bearing trees and shrubs, native to Africa. It belongs to the dogbane family, Apocynaceae.

The deciduous leaves are oblong and dark green with a bit of a glossy look to them, but are smaller than the type plant. The leaves have a lighter middle vein and form a rosette around the tips of branches. The trunk is a smooth bottle shape and is greenish silver. Spines are conical. Branching, which occurs where the plant has flowered, is less frequent than in the type. The flowers are what distinguishes this variant from the species. This variant has yellow flowers in clusters on shorter peduncles. Flowers will set in the second year in good conditions. Rosulatums should be given full light and plenty of water during the warmer months and considerably less water in the cool months. This is one of the most widely cultivated variants.
